Escape to Llama Mountain race day info

(race full)

Here's the on the day info for The Escape to Llama Mountain: A Hill Race. This is our 'test' event so essentially a little jolly in the Peaks that happens to include a timed run up a hill before we go on an optional trail tour. You're racing for pride, the title, a 'Gold' medal and a kiss off a llama*.

When: Sunday 11:00 30th May

Location: Youlgrave (youlgreave), Derbyshire. Google Maps Link HERE

Parking: The village car-park is Coldwell End Car Park, Youlgrave DE45 1UY MAP which is a handy 1000m warm up jog along the river to the start. There's also toilets at the car park. We're a working village and whilst it's entertaining for us locals seeing tractors 'clip' any poorly parked cars you may not be so entertained if it's your car, so please use common sense if the car-park is full and you're parking on the roads (be mindful of how wide the road is).

Start / Finish: Mawstone Lane DE45 1WJ. Google Map Link HERE

The start is 50m up the lane from the River Bradford.

From the village center. Head to the church and it's down the hill (Bradford Road) by the church, cross the river and you should see us.

From the car-park. Walk back towards the village. After 200m either take the footpath on your right down to the river for the riverside walk (just follow the path in the direction of the village) or stay on the road into the village. If on the road turn right when you get to the church and Mawstone Lane is down the bottom of the hill over the river. If you're on the river just keep going until you have to come off the river onto Mawstone Lane (1k from car -park)

Race Route: 1.4mile. It's a very quiet country lane which takes you above our Dale for some cracking views. The Lane is a continuous climb for a mile then it rolls before a cheeky 200m drop to the finish line. No navigation required.

Cool Down Route: 4mile 'downhill' guided trail run back to the start (or you just go back down the hill you came up). Longer option available on request.

Results and Prize Giving: The results will be worked out in the cool-down pub and the winner presented with their 'Gold' medal. Full results will be put onto the website the following day. There is a team champs just for bragging rights...YH vs EVRC.

On the Day

Park up and try to get to the start in plenty of time for the race brief.

Race numbers will be handed out at the start. Please attach this to your chest so we can record your number as you sprint through the finish line.

We are on a public lane albeit a very quiet 1, near popular walking paths and the assumption is there will be some form of covid restrictions still in place, so please be mindful and spread out to the sides.

Other Info

At the finish you can trot yourself back down the hill back to the start or you can join us on a little 4 mile trail scenic detour back to the start line. The results will be worked out over a pint in the George so please come along for some snacks and the crowning of the champion of llama mountain.

If you can no longer make the race please let us know as we're full (keeping numbers below 30 including spectators/helpers).
