#16/05/23#FINAL RACE DAY INFO

Hello and thank you for entering the 1st edition of Youlgrave's Pommie Panter Fell Race on Sunday 21st May at 11:00. Below are a few bits of information to help things go smoothly. If you have any questions just reply to this email.

Parking: Alport Lane Playing Fields , Youlgrave DE45 1WN

We've arranged to use the village playing fields, however space is limited so please car share. The village is only 800m end to end, so if you see a sensible parking space enroute, feel free to utilise as you'll be close to where you need to be. There is also a car park at Coldwell End at the 'top' of the village. If you're passing and there's space, please park up, you're 800m downhill from the registration desk in the playing fields. Make sure you leave sufficient room to allow buses, tractors and fire engines to pass.

Registration (number collection): 9:30 to 10:40. From Alport Lane Playing Fields , Youlgrave. Where the main parking is. Its the village football and cricket pitches.

Toilets: There are 3 toilet blocks.

1. Alport Lane Playing fields, Youlgrave (where parking and registration is).

2. Opposite the village hall in the centre of the village near the start line.

3. Coldwell End car-park

Route

IF YOU WITHDRAW PART WAY THROUGH TELL A MARSHAL OR CHECK IN AT THE FINISH.  WE DO NOT WANT TO BE OUT ON A BODY HUNT IF YOU'RE IN THE PUB.

The links to various maps of the route are below. It is challenging and it is mixed. Be prepared for some long climbs, Limestone on the descents (it can get very slippy, very suddenly) and a swamp. Cows, yes there could be cows. ~80% of the route is on potential grazing land, can't avoid the land sharks. We plan for them not to be in the way and for us to have a cow whisperer on potential meeting points, so there shouldn't be any interaction... However, they're cows so they'll do what they want. If you run close to them, they'll probably chase you, if you amble past them with a little space, they'll probably ignore you. We recommend the latter approach, oh and they like it if you sing for them.

The weather is behaving so things should dry out, but no promises.

We've tried very hard to put more marshals and markers than is normal as it's the 1st edition. However we may be missing a marshal or they may have to move, a walker could 'tidy up' an arrow or tape. Assume the FRA description of 'partially marked' and come prepared to have to do some navigation. The route lends itself to splitting the field in the 1st mile, so do not assume there'll be anybody to follow.

The start: 11:00. The start is a few metres uphill from the village well in the centre of the village, very near to Peak Feast Bakery and the Bulls Head pub. Its a 5min walk from registration.

The finish: The finish is on the main street of the village about 200m further along from where you started back towards the registration location, between the village shop and the George pub. It's on a wide section of the left hand side pavement, so look left when you're running down the street.

Kit : The weather is behaving so therefore there is no requirement for the FRA mandatory kit. However this is a fell race and there is an expectation that the runner will carry what is appropriate for them. There are long sections of potential mud and we weave on and off the Limestone way which can be VERY slippy in places. It may be warm and it's not a quick route, if you normally need water in the warm for 60min+ runs..take water. There's no bag drop, but it's a small village so you won't be far away from your car or house. Tight shoelaces are advised to avoid leaving shoes in the swamp.

Post Race

We'll have water set up at the end with paper cups, but if you have your own mug in your kit, please bring it to cut down on waste. We also finish next to Youlgrave Harriers HQ , The George pub, which is where the after party is.

Prizes: We've had some medals made and all hand painted for all the category winners. So if you think you've won and in a post race hurry don't scuttle off without saying goodbye so we can give you your medal. Hopefully we'll sort the winning results out efficiently enough to be able to do the presentations at about 12:45 within range of the finish line out the front of the George.

FRA DETAILS Race Licence HERE

Parking: Alport Lane Playing Fields, Youlgrave (the football pitch). We're a working village ie there are tractors. We're also very pretty so attract visitors, which makes us busy from 10:00 onwards. Please bear this in mind when you're parking ie make sure there's enough space for a big tractor to get past. We are taking over the playing fields for parking however it is limited so please car share. If you see available parking on your way into the village feel free to utilise. You wont be far away from registration which is the village playing fields / football pitch. There is also a car-park at the 'top' of the village , Coldwell End car-park. If you're passing and there's spaces please park up. If you fancy a warm up run there's another car-park on Moor Lane which is at the top of the opening hill so good for spectators.

Race Info: It's the 1st edition of Youlgrave's Pommie Panter . The race is run under Fell Running Association (FRA) competition rules and licence. We're a 'proper' traditional Peak District roller of a race. The terrain is rough trails, open fields and an opening section of country lane. There'll be small sections of low level technical parts and a swamp. The route navigation isn't complicated and its all on public footpaths plus we'll have marshals and signs up. BUT this is the 1st edition and we're limiting entry numbers so we can concentrate on getting it right. So you may very well end up solo or in a small group where nobody knows the route. If you're not experienced ie ok with map reading/path finding or familiar with the area's paths a course recce is STRONGLY recommended. The route is all public paths, so you can recce at your leisure. There will be a group recce on Sunday 12th March being done as 1 of Youlgrave Harriers' open invite guided runs. Details of the group recce are here  (all free etc, just add your name to a list so we know numbers)

On the Day

Registration: Please collect your race number from our desk set up on the football pitches where the main parking is, we'll be there from 9:30 to 10:45.

The start is 300m away from registration a few metres uphill from the Village Well off the Main Street on Moor Lane. You finish on the main street between the village shop and the George pub.

Mandatory Kit: #16/05/23# The weather is behaving so therefore there is no requirement for the FRA mandatory kit. However this is a fell race and there is an expectation that the runner will carry what is appropriate for them. There are long sections of potential mud and we weave on and off the Limestone way which can be VERY slippy in places.  Please remember this is a new race so there will not be the usual regular runners who know the route. Be aware the course is set up to split up/thin the field so expect to be running alone or in a small group. We are partially marked and marshaled ie cant guarantee to be fully marked so please study the route and have a map.

We also have an exceptional bakery/cafe (Peakfeast) and our village shop does some fine cakes.
