Winster Hill Race

The Race

When: Thursday June/July TBC 2025 19:00

Entry: £5 Pre-entry. FULL (race nation entry page). Limited entry of 150. Entry on day will be available if we're not full.

Details: The Hill Race forms part of the Winster Wakes week long festival. Our race is an 'undulating' 4 miles using the lanes, trails and fields around the village. The course is marshaled at all the junctions and partially marked up. Its suitable for all levels of runner, challenging for the experienced runners and a great introduction to hill running for new runners.

Start: Main Street, Winster, DE4 2DG

Distance: 4 mile

Climb: 581 ft

Terrain: Lanes and fields

Route Description: The route will be marshaled and partially marked.

You have a fast opening mile where you can challenge your 1 mile PB. We then hit the 1st bump of the day. A few rolling fields to recover and a drop back down before the bit mean Dudwood climb takes you back above the village. The final 800m is a mad dash downhill through the village and ending a few meters before the beer garden.

Another year with sunshine, but with added wind. Our 2022 and 2023 winner Greg Hopkinson could nt quite do 3 wins a row, but gave it a very good go with a strong 2nd. Harry Holmes took the win with a 23:20 time, which is the 2nd quickest known time we've had since 2010. In the Female category Sara Willhort took the win finishing 7th overall in 26:17 which looks like it puts her 2nd on the Female all time list (the historic results are slowly coming together, can be viewed on the results sheet, needs category adding ) .

Thankyou to everybody that came out to run, support and help. It was another successful year with £800+ raised for the Winster Carnival and Wakes charity. Its is all very much appreciated.

Loads of photos in Facebook Land at the below links. Thankyou very much Andy again (1 day I'll buy you that pint). And thankyou to 1951 photos/ jdd photos, much appreciated. They'll get added to a gallery over the next week or so (05/07/24)

Winster 2023

Glorious sunshine! After 2022's absolute horror conditions the sun came back out. Greg Hopkinson came back to defend his 2022 title in a commanding manner putting a minute on second place. In 3rd place was Charlotte Ward who set a new Female course record knocking 6 seconds off the previous long standing record. Congratulations to all our winners and thank you to all of you that came and run , cheered and helped on the course. To be able to keep the village race in such fine health is not something we take for granted and appreciate everybody's involvement. It forms an integral part of the village fundraising...and its a darned fine excuse to go to the pub.

All the photos will be appearing on Andy Mutley-Photos . The gallery is HERE .

Thankyou - Winster and Youlgrave Harriers

Winster 2022

It was a wet one but a very well supported one. We went from setting up with sun lotion on to compiling the results shivering and protecting our pints from the rain.

Yet again the village did us proud with a full set of helpers doing an amazing job of keeping the cars away and runners on track. Despite the weather (it really was horrible) we had a brilliant crowd cheering the runners down to the finish line.

The full results are below, and thank you all for running and therefore supporting our little race, we hope you enjoyed it, we hope you'll be back next year, we hope we've got the results right and we hope you've all defrosted now.

THANK YOU - john w , Youlgrave Harriers and Winster Wakes/Carnival.

If you spot result errors (im sure there will be as our result sheets were dissolving in the rain by the end) can you let us know via youlgraveharriers@gmail.com.

There will be a LOAD of photos appearing on the Youlgrave Harriers public Facbook page over the next week.
