Hello all,

We've had a bit of a sabbatical from comms and our weekend runs with us all being a bit busy with races, injuries, looking for a cat (back home now) and doing more club runs. The club runs are firmly twice a week now. Tuesday's are the Social 5 and Thursdays are the sessions. There's a calendar on the website with a brief description of what we're doing HERE . Our Weekend runs are now back starting this Saturday with a big loop from Thorpe (Saturday 5th November) and Not The Litton Christmas Cracker Sunday 11th Dec, full details below...

If anybody is now thinking of a Spring 2023 marathon / ultra / long trudge there's been another study on training emphasis and it was mostly the usual with 1 exception..there's just a hint that you can get away with spreading the mileage over the week and not loading into a long run ie if your total rolling millage is 50 miles per week it's just as effective to spread that over the week and not do a 15-20m long run. Now of course I'm interpreting this with some desire bias as I openly despise the long run and it is specifically referencing distance, not how you distribute the pace, additional training load etc, but hell any excuse for my long run to be a 10mile pootle vs 20 mile is a winner in my books. You can read the study HERE

Guided Trail Runs - They're open invite and all done as 1 group at a very social amble, if you're ok at running the distance you'll be fine regardless of pace. Any updates etc will appear on the website 1st under Events HERE . If you're not a member you can let us know you're coming HERE (google form so we can keep tabs on numbers)

Thorpe and Bunster Monster

When: Saturday 5th November. 10:00

Where: Thorpe (Dovedale)

Start / Meeting point: The Old Dog Pub, Thorpe DE6 2AT

Facilities / Parking. Thorpe Station Car park or Narlow Lane Car park, Thorpe

Route: 8.6 mile / 1800 feet

DW Maps GPX: HERE

Strava: HERE

Starting and finishing in the pub we'll run under Thorpe cloud, past the Dovedale stepping stones then up onto the top ridge above the river with views into the valley. We'll drop down then come back up Ilam Rocks and across the fields heading up over the Bunster monster before dropping back into Thorpe for a pint.

Not The Litton Christmas Cracker

When: Sunday 11th December, 10:00

Where: Litton

Start / Meeting point: Red Lion Inn, Litton

Route: 7.4m / 1000ft

DW Maps GPX: HERE

Strava: HERE

Because this year's Litton Christmas Cracker Fell Race has been cancelled we'll keep the memory alive by having a pootle around the route. We'll be sticking as closely as we can to the Cracker route without straying off public paths. The route will take us through Tideswell Dale and past Litton Mill giving us 3.5m of downhill. We're then in Cressbrook Dale and it's a climb up to Wardlow Hay Cop then back to Litton.

Adhoc

Club pub trip. Saturday 26th November is the Baslow Bolt recovery pub night. Regardless of whether you've ran the Bolt in the morning, there's a Beer and Gin night at the Lathkill Hotel (Over Haddon) so we thought its best to do our civic duty and support the event. Event info HERE. Meeting there at 17:00. Wrap up because if the place gets busy we may be outside, brrrr. They're not taking table bookings or doing normal food service, though eating is cheating anyway. There may be snacks on (they weren't sure when we checked).

Club Kit: The cupboard is bare of our resplendent kit, so there'll be an order going in over the next few weeks for the standard vests, t-shirts and new lightweight waterproof jacket. If you want anything just reply with your order. Kit pics and prices are HERE (the jacket will appear there after the test 1 has arrived).

Our Fell Race...Youlgrave's Pommie Panter

We're almost all good to go for the 1st edition of The Pommie Panter. We have a route and it's pencilled in for May 2023, exact date TBC, though looking like the start of month Saturday morning. If you fancy a recce of the route just reply to this and I'll send you the route map and GPX (it's not top secret but it's also not fully public knowledge yet). If you do a recce send me some feedback along the lines of ..you'll need a marshall or an arrow here etc. It's a 'challenging' route, hills, swamps, few rocks and cracking views.
